Akombe Speaks After News Of The Missing IEBC Official
Dr. Roselyn Akombe, a former commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), has responded to reports that a returning officer has vanished.
RO of the Embakasi East constituency At 9.45 a.m. on Thursday, Daniel Musyoka was at the East African School of Aviation Tallying Centre when he vanished.
Akombe prayed for his safety and wished the missing members of the IEBC personnel a speedy return to his family and coworkers.
Taking to social media on Saturday, Dr Akombe wrote: “Praying that Daniel Musyoka is safe and is reunited with his family, IEBC colleagues, and friends.”
She also empathised with the current members of the Commission noting that she understands the struggles they are going through as they race against time to tally the results of the presidential election, with the nation waiting for the outcome.
“Keeping my former staff and colleagues in my thoughts and prayers during these tough times. I know what you are going through. Bon courage,” Dr Akombe added.
In response to the annulment of the presidential election results from that year, Dr. Akombe, a political economist, resigned from the IEBC on October 17, 2017. She blamed governmental meddling in the election’s administration.
In an interview with the BBC on October 18, 2017, Dr. Akombe claimed that the Commission was under attack and expressed skepticism about Mr. Chebukat’s ability to conduct a legitimate rerun of the presidential election at the moment.
The former IEBC Commissioner continued to express her disagreements with other commissioners and was quick to denounce the contentious passing of the former IEBC IT Manager Chris Msando.
