There are few simple steps on how to register NHIF online.
NHIF registration has now been made easier for the self employed or voluntary category.
You can now register online through your smart phone unlike previously when one was required to visit NHIF offices.
10 Simple Steps on to How to Register NHIF online
- Visit the NHIF registration portal or rather the NHIF website.
- Click on the self employed option.
- Then enter your National ID number or Passport or Alien ID.
- Fill in all the other form fields (basically your details).
- Then attach a scanned copy of your ID or your passport.
- Attach a passport size photo.
- Attach spouse’s marriage certificate if married and wants to add your spouse as your dependent.
- Then click to confirm your details.
- Your application will be submitted if you filled all details correctly.
- The system will automatically notify you of your application status and also send a notification in SMS form to your mobile number.
How To Check Your NHIF Status Through SMS
- Using your smart phone, go to the main menu and compose a message.
- At the message option just type “ID”, then space followed by the ID number or passport number for foreigners.
- Send the typed message to 21101
- You will then receive a message once your NHIF account status has been processed.
How To Pay For NHIF Through Your Phone
For the self employed category, there are various ways to pay your NHIF contributions.
You can make payments through Co-operative bank, Equity, KCB, or National bank branches countrywide and also through your phone using MPESA.
For Mpesa Payment:
- Click the MPESA option on your SIM toolkit.
- Then choose the LIPA NA MPESA option and select PayBill.
- Enter the NHIF Business Number, which is 200222.
- Enter Account Number (type your national ID number or passport number).
- Then enter the amount of money you wish to contribute on the enter amount option.
- Enter your MPESA PINand press okay after confirming all your details are correct.
- You will then receive a confirmation SMS from MPESA immediately.
For those making payments for the first time, you are required to pay 1,500 KES, as the key step on how to register NHIF online, so as to reactivate your NHIF card .
You will then be required to wait for 2 months equivalent to 60 days to start enjoying the regular services.
Due date for making NHIF payments is 9th day of every month. Members are encouraged to pay early to avoid penalties. Late payments attract 50% penalties and no payment will make your NHIF account status INACTIVE or DORMANT.
