Taxi Driver Arraigned In Court Over Assaulting A Congo Diplomat

A cab driver has been charged with groping a visiting diplomat from the Democratic Republic of the Congo before dropping her off at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The company hired to arrange for the diplomat’s drop-off at JKIA following a conference in the city on May 30 is believed to have employed Julius Kieti.

According to court documents, the diplomat, who only went by the initials KMB, got into Kieti’s car at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.

Then, purportedly, Mr. Kieti started groping the woman inappropriately as they were on their way to the airport.

Additionally, he is alleged to have stopped the vehicle by the side of the road and climbed onto the back seat to continue molesting her. The documents also claim that the diplomat pulled the driver away after he attempted to sit on her laps.

The Kenyan Embassy in the DRC was informed of the incident.

Defending against the accusation, Kieti appeared before the Makadara Law Courts and was granted freedom on a Ksh.200,000 bond or a cash bail of a comparable amount.

On September 1, the case is scheduled to be heard.
