Chebukati Confirms Tuesday’s Voter Turnout Was At 64.6 Percent

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) noted that 64.6% of eligible voters participated in Tuesday’s general election.
This is based on voting records transmitted only through the commission’s KIEMS kits, according to IEBC Chairperson Wafula Chebukati during a press conference on Wednesday.
“The voter turnout based on the KIEMS kits which were functional during the process of voting is 64.6 per cent,” said Chebukati.
This constitutes 14,164,561 of the 22,120,448 registered voters, according to the IEBC director.
He added that the electoral authority was gathering data to determine the total number of participants in Tuesday’s election, including those who used handwritten voter registrations.
“We have areas where the commission allowed the use of manual registers and we shall be able to give the exact voter turnout when the data is transmitted and compute the total voter turnout,” he said.
84 polling locations in the Kibwezi West constituency of Makueni county were authorized to use the manual register, according to IEBC’s announcement on Tuesday.
In Kakamega County, notably in the Matungu, Mumias West, and Mumias East constituencies, an additional 154 polling places would also employ manual registers.
At the same time, Chebukati declared that as of Wednesday at 2:30 p.m., the commission had received 97.65 percent of Form 34As.
From a total of 46,229 voting locations, he stated that 45,141 have presented their ballots.
The forms, according to Chebukati, are just for presidential tallies, and they don’t exist because they only got entries in the form of images.
“Results transmission of the forms from polling stations is ongoing and we will address you as we receive more,” he said.
Chebukati continued by stating that the commission upholds openness and that all data recorded on the forms would be used to determine who will win the presidency.
