Nakuru East MP Released By Police After Arrest Over Fighting
David Gikaria, a member of parliament for Nakuru East, was detained after an incident at a county voting place, but he was later freed on a police bond of Ksh. 50,000.
When the police have finished their inquiries into the incident, the legislator will be arraigned.
The MP allegedly attacked a rival candidate and sent a gang of suspected thugs to the Naka polling place, but police repelled them, according to Nakuru Police Commander Peter Mwanzo.
“This morning he appeared at the Lanet polling centre where he fought a fellow candidate. Later on in the afternoon, at Naka polling centre, he sent a group suspected to be goons but were chased away by police,” said Mwanzo.
He mentioned that the incident resulted in one individual being hospitalized for injuries, and that police had started an inquiry.
