IEBC Suspends Kakamega And Mombasa Gubernatorial Election

Elections for governor in the counties of Kakamega and Mombasa have been put on hold by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) after it was discovered that the ballots from those two counties included mistakes.
Elections in the two counties will take place at a later date that will be notified by the commission, according to Chairman Wafula Chebukati.

After candidates who had been cleared died, the IEBC earlier suspended elections in wards across numerous counties.

Ward elections must be held at a later date in Mumias North Ward (Kakamega), South Gem Ward (Siaya), Kyome/Thaana Ward (Kitui), Oloimasani Ward (Narok), and Utawala Ward (Nairobi).
In the impacted areas, voters will arrive at the polls with five ballots instead of the six that are expected. Elections must be suspended if a fully qualified candidate is elected, according to electoral laws.

While receiving care at a hospital in Kisumu, South Gem candidate Maurice Nick Otieno Wanga passed away; in contrast, Mumias North contender Abdalla Kweyu passed away in a car accident.
